Historical Wood
Woods with a Story
Wood is a material that has stood the test of time. It has been the key building component in ships, houses, storage barrels and even performance stages. The items that appear on this page are made from historical "witness" wood. This is a term used for a material that has been present, or involved in some traceable historical event, and thus was a "witness" to the historical event itself.

Pens Made from the Main Stage of
The House of Blues,
Sunset Strip, Hollywood CA.
I was very lucky to receive several pieces of wood from the main stage of the famous House of Blues in Hollywood, CA when it was demolished.
For twenty years, The House of Blues stage was host to countless artists. From the opening performance by Aerosmith in 1994, to the final act by Steel Panther in 2014, some of the more famous performers to have graced this stage include: James Brown, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Alice Cooper, The Damned, Bo Diddley, Snoop Dogg, Aretha Franklin, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, GWAR, Etta James, Elton John, B.B. King, KISS, Lil Kim, Rihanna, Social Distortion, Britney Spears, Stevie Wonder, and ZZ top, just to name a few. On this stage in 2011, Prince played three shows in one night, and it was also where Tupac Shakur had his final recorded performance in 1996. The people who have "walked" on these pens is mind blowing!
The pens featured above were donated to the crew that took part in the demolition of the stage.
I do have limited quantities of this wood on hand, please ask for a custom pen if the one you like is not available!
Also, I have limited quantities of the other materials on this page. I have left the "sold" pens on the site to show what can be made.
Please don't hesitate to ask for anything that is already sold. Chances are excellent that a similar item can be custom made for you!

Teak Decking from The USS Wisconsin
Finish: Antique Copper
Material: Old Growth Teak Decking
Origins: USS Wisconsin
Ink Refill: Parker™ Style
Description: USS Wisconsin (BB-64) is an Iowa-class battleship, the second ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. She was built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and launched on 7 December 1943 (the second anniversary of the Pearl Harbor raid), sponsored by the wife of Governor Walter Goodland of Wisconsin.
During her career, Wisconsin served in the Pacific Theater of World War II, where she shelled Japanese fortifications and screened United States aircraft carriers as they conducted air raids against enemy positions. During the Korean War, Wisconsin shelled North Korean targets in support of United Nations and South Korean ground operations, after which she was decommissioned. She was reactivated on 1 August 1986; after a modernization program, she participated in Operation Desert Storm in January and February 1991.
Wisconsin was last decommissioned in September 1991 after a total of 14 years of active service in the fleet, and having earned a total of six battle stars for service in World War II and Korea, as well as a Navy Unit Commendation for service during the January/February 1991 Gulf War. She currently functions as a museum ship operated by Nauticus, The National Maritime Center in Norfolk, Virginia. On 15 April 2010, the City of Norfolk officially took over ownership of the ship.
