This wood was removed during a restoration processes back in the 1970's. This is an edge-cut piece of old-growth pine, that has been encased in a super hard cyannoacrylate finish (aka "super glue"), and polished to a high gloss. Finish: Antique Copper
Material: Old Growth Teak Decking
Origins: USS Iowa
Ink Refill:  Parker™ Style
Description: USS Iowa (BB-61) is the lead ship of her class of Battleship.During World War II, she carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Algeria, en route to a crucial 1943 meeting in Tehran with Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Britain and Josef Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union. In 1944, Iowa shelled beachheads at Kwajalein and Eniwetok in advance of Allied amphibious landings and screened aircraft carriers operating in the Marshall Islands. She also served as the Third Fleet flagship, flying Adm. William F. Halsey's flag at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay. During the Korean War, Iowa was involved in raids on the North Korean coast, after which she was decommissioned into the United States Navy reserve fleets. She was reactivated in 1984 as part of the 600-ship Navy plan and operated in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets to counter the recently expanded Soviet Navy. In April 1989, an explosion of undetermined origin wrecked her No. 2 gun turret, killing 47 sailors. Decommissioned permanently in 1990, she has been moved to Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles, and in 2012, she was opened to the public as the USS Iowa Museum.
I personally purchased this wood while visiting the museum. While speaking with a restoration expert, I was able to purchase some of the old decking that he had set aside just for pen makers. Unfortunately, I have no formal Certificate of Authenticity to accompany this pen, other than my word that I personally obtained the material from the source, myself.

Finish: Chrome and 24 Kt gold
Material: Stabilized and dyed Box Elder Burl
Origins: North America
Ink Refill: Cross™ Style
Description: This wood is typically very soft, so it is stabilized by placing it under a significant negative pressure and removing the water content. A resin is then added to make the wood hard. A color can also be added to the resin, in this case violet, to color the naturally light wood. The grain pattern in the wood is caused by natural compression of the trunk or branch as it moves in the wind. This causes different densities in the wood producing a stunning pattern.

The name Kiabooca means twisted wood which refers to the burls that are produced. Once available in quantity in the Empire period from 1804 through 1815. Used primarily for furniture. Amboyna has become a rarity that is very scarce and is even difficult to obtain in veneer form in America. The wood is dense and course making it difficult to work and finish. Despite the shortcomings of the workability of this species it turns satisfactorily and takes a nice high polish. Amboyna is The World’s most popular and sought after burl thus leading to a short supply.

Description: Ever heard of Fordite? Back in the days when cars were painted by hand in a spray booth, the different colors of paint would form thick layers on the booth's walls.  Every now and then it would need to be chipped off, and the resulting chunks of paint revealed different layers of color that could actually be polished to form beautiful jewelry. This pen is made from polyester resins to simulate the old Fordite in teal and white. A very unique tidbit of history!
